The leader of the Stasi, Erich Schmidt displays himself as a charismatic person to persuade and ensure the public that the Stasi rule is just. However, his subordinates know Schmidt as a cold and paranoid individual who will not hesitate to persecute anyone if he feels his dictatorship is in question.
Schmidt is revealed to be a KGB agent and that his real mission is to make East Germany as bait for the BETA in order to relieve the pressure from the Soviet’s own defense lines against the alien invasion. Beatrix Brehme realizes this and conspires with other Stasi agents to double cross Schmidt. He is then killed by Beatrix who assumes power in his stead.
