He is left only with his mother after his father, a firefighter, dies in the line of duty. However, Hikaru does not let it get him down and lives an optimistic and cheerful everyday life, dreaming of one day becoming a hero like his father and baselessly believing he can. The encounter with Mimi and her parents gives him such a chance.
