Mirai Nikki

Notes:

The opening is magnificent, and if you add the experience to it's an absolute all time favorite.

The backstory on each character is both beautiful (well-written) and sad; every each one of them (although they might seem weak or too strong).

You won't sense the "Fantasy" in it until you reach the beginning of the end (the last 3 or 2 episodes), cause everyone's killing each other using the diaries and you get used to the clairvoyance like they're all very smart or something and can predict one other.
You get to know and feel what the characters feel as you watch through the end. You reach an amazing level of understanding. 
DON'T JUDGE IT TOO QUICKLY.

The first time you're watching it, you might feel annoyed by some events such as Yukki being a cry-baby or Yuno being so psycho, that is until you reach the ending. Then you'd see that all of those was because of the 1st world and the original world wasn't so messed up like the second one.

The Story is tragic but does eventually end in a happy state (you might as well call it a "Happy End")
It could've ended in so many different ways and it would've been tragic as hell, you would't be able to deal with it for days. (yeah maybe the writers didn't want that to happen and so they put funny specials at the end of each episode)
and again the characterization was amazing, as you watch the anime you don't understand what's really happening up until the very end.
as for the characters; the 9th, Aru Akise, the 7th couple were my favorites.
